Melanie was born and raised in Dallas, TX.  She received her B.S. in Psychology from Virginia Tech in 2002 and her JD from the University of Baltimore in 2006.   She is admitted to practice in Maryland, the District of Columbia, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland and the District of Columbia. She will waive into the Virginia Bar in the upcoming year.
 
Melanie focuses primarily in the areas of family law, foreclosure defense and foreclosure mediation, bankruptcy, landlord and tenant, consumer protection, civil mediation and civil litigation.
 
Melanie has been actively involved in Maryland Foreclosure Prevention Pro Bono Project since its inception in 2008 and serves as a Mentor Attorney at the Foreclosure Solutions Workshops around the State. She serves as Of Counsel to housing counseling agencies in Prince George's County, Montgomery County, and Eastern Shore, Maryland and in the District of Columbia.  Melanie has also testified as an expert in foreclosure litigation.
 
She serves on the Pro Bono Resource Center Board of Directors, Chair of PBRC Program Committee, PBRC Recruitment and Training Committee, PBRC Strategic Planning Committee, and Public Awareness Committee.  She also serves on the Board of Directors for Invictus Reentry.
 
Melanie is also an active volunteer for CASA DC, is Den Leader for her son's Cub Scout troop and volunteers for organizations that support our active duty servicemembers.  She is a graduate of the Maryland State Bar Association Leadership Academy (Class of 2012).
